TEMPERED GLASS

Tempered or toughened glass is an exceptionally strong type of glass that undergoes thermal heat treatment to create compressive stresses of 11,000 to 20,000 psi on the surface, with edge compression of not less than 9,700 psi. It is important to note that tempered glass cannot be cut or altered after the tempering process. Consequently, all cutting, edge grinding, and hole drilling need to be done before tempering.

Tough glass is equipped with four glass tempering plants that vary in size, capabilities, and features. This allows us to temper a wide range of glass thicknesses and sizes, making them suitable for various applications, including Low-E glasses. By employing our expertise and state-of-the-art facilities, tough glass can provide high-quality tempered glass solutions that meet the demands of different industries and projects.

ADVANTAGES

Tempered glass possesses the ability to withstand temperature differentials of up to 250°C. In the event of breakage, it fractures into small, relatively harmless fragments, significantly reducing the risk of injuries as there are no jagged edges or sharp corners. It is worth noting that the properties of tempered glass remain unchanged after the tempering process unless it is laminated or double-glazed.

Tempered glass finds a wide range of applications in various industries:
  • Curtain walls and structural glazing
  • Bolted structural glazing, doors, and partitions
  • Furniture, shower installations, automobiles, and railways
  • Kitchen appliances and lighting fixtures
  • Ships, boats, and fire knockout windows

These examples represent just a few of the many potential uses for tempered glass, showcasing its versatility and suitability across different sectors.
